On a hot summer’s day, a rat was playing happily by the pond. Suddenly, he slipped and fell into the water. The rat struggled and shouted,“Help! Save me! I’m drowning!”A pigeon happened to be resting on a tree nearby. He heard the rat calling for help and thought,“Oh dear! I should help the poor rat!”He quickly threw a twig into the pond. When the rat saw the twig, he immediately grabbed hold of it. Then, the pigeon pulled him to the edge of the pond, and the rat scrambled to safety. After the rat got out of the pond, he thanked the pigeon gratefully,“Thank you for saving my life. I promise to repay your kindness.”The pigeon smiled and said,“Don’t worry about it. It’s nothing.”Then, the pigeon flew away.

A week passed. One day, the pigeon was resting on a tree branch. He did not see that there was a hunter hiding in the bushes who was aiming a gun at him. The rat saw that the pigeon was in danger. So, he quickly climbed onto the hunter’s leg and bit the hunter hard.

“Ouch!” said the hunter, as his shot missed the pigeon. The pigeon heard the gun shot and flew away to safety. Later on, the pigeon thanked the rat.“Thank you. You saved my life today.”The rat smiled and replied,“Don’t mention it. If you hadn’t saved me last time, I wouldn’t have been able to repay your kindness.”The pigeon laughed and said,“How surprising. I saved your life, and ended up I save my own life!”

　　在一個炎熱的夏天裡，一隻老鼠碰碰跳跳地走在池塘旁邊，突然一不小心，跳進到池塘裡，老鼠在水裡拼命掙扎大叫：「救命啊！快來救救我啊！」有隻鴿子正在樹上休息，看到老鼠叫救命的情形，心想：「真可憐！去幫幫他吧！」趕緊將一根樹枝丟進池塘，老鼠看到樹枝後，馬上抓住樹枝。接著，鴿子再把樹枝拉到池塘邊，老鼠就得救了。老鼠上岸後，滿懷感激的對鴿子說：「謝謝你救了我一命，我一定會報答你的。」鴿子笑著說：「你不用放在心上，這只是一件小事而已。」說完，就飛走了。
　　過了一個星期後，有一天，鴿子正悠閒的站在樹枝上休息，沒有注意到周圍的樹叢裡躲著一位獵人，正用獵槍瞄準著自己。這個時候，老鼠偷偷爬上獵人的腳，狠狠的咬了一口。
　　獵人腳一痛，就往天空開一槍，鴿子聽到槍聲趕快飛走，逃過獵人的攻擊。最後，鴿子對老鼠說：「謝謝你，今天救了我一命。」老鼠回答：「千萬別客氣，要不是你上次救了我，我也沒機會報答你的恩情。」鴿子笑著說：「沒想到，我救你一命，結果反而是救了我自己啊！」
