Introduction: The silk umbrella dance is a common folk dance in Taiwan, showing the daily life scenes of sheltering from rain and sun, as well as playing with an umbrella in Taiwan’s oceanic climate. The instructor first introduces the types, maintenance and storage of silk umbrellas, before teaching basic gestures such as the reverse grip, inverted umbrella, etc., and basic steps such as stepping and turning. Finally, the instructor explains common movement combinations and demonstrates the piece before giving advice on props for practice.
