Once upon a time, in a forest, there lived a lively little monkey who loved to play. Every day after school, he would go play with his friends, and did not think of going home until the sky grew dark.

One day, Mama Monkey told the little monkey, “My child, you should read books in your spare time. Learn some things, and do not play games all day.”Though the little monkey loved to play, he listened to his mother’s advice. So, he thought, “Mama told me to read books in my spare time, but what kind of books should I read?”

The next day at school, Little Monkey asked his good friend Little Boar, “Little Boar, after you get home from school each day, what kind of books do you read?”Little Boar replied, “After I get home from school, I usually read my favorite comic books.”The little monkey found comic books to be very interesting, so he borrowed many comic books from Little Boar to bring home to read. From then on, after the little monkey got home from school every day, he would immerse himself in comic books, until it was time for bed. And even then, he did not want to go to sleep. This made Mama Monkey very worried, so she told the little monkey, “My child, I asked you to read more books so that you may improve your knowledge. But you read nothing but comic books all day, which will do you more harm than good.”

The little monkey asked, “Mama, what kind of books should I read?”Mama Monkey replied, “I have a copy of the ‘Three Character Classic’. It teaches one how to manage different interpersonal relationships, and is a good choice for you.”

The little monkey opened the book, pouted and said, “Thank you, mama! But I do not understand what this book is saying!”Mama Monkey smiled and replied, “Don’t worry, I will read with you.”

　　森林裡，住著一隻活潑愛玩的小猴子。放學以後，就跑去找朋友玩遊戲，天都黑了，才想到回家。
　　有一天，猴子媽媽對小猴子說：「孩子，有空的時候應該多看書，增加自己的知識，不要一直都在玩遊戲。」小猴子雖然愛玩，可是他很聽媽媽的話，於是心想：「媽媽希望我有空的時候多看書，可是要看什麼樣的書呢？」
　　隔天在學校裡，小猴子問他的好朋友小山豬說：「小山豬，你每天放學回家後，都在看什麼樣的書呢？」小山豬回答：「我放學回家後，都在看我最喜歡的漫畫書。」小猴子覺得漫畫書很有趣，就向小山豬借了好幾本漫畫書。
　　從此以後，小猴子每天放學回家，就沉迷在漫畫書中，甚至到了睡覺的時間，還不肯上床睡覺。猴子媽媽很擔心，就對小猴子說：「孩子，媽媽要你多看書，是希望你能夠增加知識，你一天到晚都在看漫畫書，對你反而會有不好的影響。」
　　小猴子問：「媽媽，那要看什麼樣的書呢？」猴子媽媽說：「媽媽這裡有一本『三字經』，書中有許多待人處事的道理，最適合你閱讀了。」
　　小猴子翻開三字經，嘟著嘴說：「謝謝媽媽！可是這本書，我怎麼看都看不懂耶！」猴子媽媽笑著說：「沒關係，媽媽陪你一起看。」
