Before the creation of heaven and earth, the universe was nothing but a chaotic air mass. There was neither light nor sound.

Suddenly, Pangu appeared and swung his huge axe down on the mass. With a deafening boom, the mass was split into two. The lighter, clear air slowly floated upward and formed ‘Heaven’. The heavier, turbid air settled down and formed ‘Earth’. Thenceforth, Heaven and Earth were separated, and light began to emerge from the center. Heaven grew ten feet taller each day, and Earth grew ten feet thicker each day. Pangu also grew ten feet taller each day, so that he could support Heaven. 18, 000 years passed. Heaven became very high, and Earth became very thick. As for Pangu, who grew together with Heaven and Earth, he naturally became a giant whose head reached the sky.

Later on, when Pangu died, his right eye became the moon, and his left eye became the sun. His hair and beard became the stars, and his breath became the wind and mist. His voice became thunder and lightning. His flesh became land. His limbs formed the mountains. Finally, his blood turned into the rivers. From then, the sun, moon and stars appeared in the sky, the land gave birth to mountains, streams, and forests, which in turn nurtured all forms of life, creating the beautiful world that we live in now.

　　就在這個時候，出現了一個盤古氏，他用大斧頭一揮，轟隆一聲巨響，將這一團混沌給劈了開來，輕的、清的氣便慢慢地往上飄浮，變成了「天」；重的、濁的氣便往下移動，形成了「地」。從此以後，天地分開了，中間也慢慢透出一些光線，天每天向上高出一丈，地每天加厚一丈，而盤古氏本人也每天長高一丈，來撐住天。就這樣過了一萬八千年，天就變得很高很高，地就變得很厚很厚，由於每天隨著天地長高的盤古氏，自然也成了一個頂天立地的巨人。
　　後來，盤古氏死了，他的右眼變成了月亮，左眼變成了太陽，而他的頭髮、鬍子則變成了星星，嘴裏最後吐出來的氣變成了風和霧，他的聲音變成了雷及閃電，而身上的肉變成了土地，四肢形成了山，最後血液化成了江河，從此天上出現了日月星辰，地上產生山川樹木，萬物蓬勃發展起來，成就了我們現在住的這個美麗世界。
